Birdfeed, why’s that your name?

nick

I don’t know if you all read Jason’s post the other day about his favorite hood snacks or not, but it gave me an idea to make a post about the various foods that I eat. I mean, his foods are pretty interesting and the foods that I often eat provided me with my nickname, Birdfeed. Of course, Joe coined me with this name after the first time we met. We all went out to eat and, according to him, the stuff I was eating was most definitely only suitable for birds to eat.

So, here are some of my favorite foods that a bird may or may not also like. I’ m sure that you all like some of my favorites as well.

bananas-01

1. My all time favorite thing is frozen bananas. What, seriously? Yes, seriously, that is the greatest FOOD of all time in my book. They have to be frozen though. If bananas aren’t frozen then they are just mediocre, not amazing. I eat at least 2 frozen bananas ever day. Always with my cereal for breakfast. Which brings me to my next favorite thing -

2. CEREAL. Seriously, who doesn’t love cereal? I’m picky about it having to be whole grain, but other than that I’ m game for just about anything. I love Cinnamon Harvest from Kashi, that’s definitely one of the best.

3. Seitan! I guess that this is where the foods that I enjoy might not make sense to the most mainstream eaters out there. Seitan (pronounced satan, like the evil Mr. Devil himself) is essientally boiled wheat gluten, the protein part of the grain. This protein is what provides breads with their chewy texture. The finished product of boiling the wheat gluten results in a product that resembles brains. So I get to pretend that I’m a zombie when I’m eating seitan.

You actually eat this quite a bit as well, more than likely. All of those cheap beef/chicken burritos and burgers that you gobble up are not 100% meat. Instead, they are a mixture of several things, including wheat gluten and textured vegetable protein.

4. Beans. Seriously, can you go wrong with beans? The answer is definitely no. Beans are so awesome either when they are mashed up into refried beans, or eaten plain out of the crockpot! I go through quite a bit of beans as well as they are good in everything. In fact, you can even make brownies out of them.

pico-de-gallo

5. Pico de Gallo. Does anyone else find this stuff to be almost as addicting as crack? I seriously loveĀ  this stuff. Fun fact, the name is translated from spanish to “beak of rooster.”

So, that’s my list of some of my favorite things for right now. Of course, I could list things for days but that would be even more boring for you all. Speaking of which, I will try to make a more exciting post next week but I’m currently working on a few things that left me a little uninspired today and I am sorry for that.
