I have many, many favorite things, as I’m sure that many of you all do as well. For some reason though, I’ve had two of my favorite things in particular on my mind quite a bit for the last few days.
The first of my favorite things that won’t seem to leave my thoughts are jellyfish. Those things are just mesmorizing.
Have you ever really just watched one…I mean like stared at it and paid attention to what it was doing? They float and flutter so brilliantly, but at the same time they will straight up KILL YOU!
Box Jellyfish have the most poisonous venom in the ENTIRE animal kingdom. That is a fact, I verified it on Wikipedia. I’m sure that you already knew this though. I mean, they are the one thing that could take down Will Smith for Pete’s Sake. (Go see Seven Pounds if you don’t know what I’m talking about.) Before I saw that movie, I was pretty sure that Will Smith was invincible. Who else can take on ballchinians and other aliens and still survive?
Also, the first stage of their life more closely resembles a plant than an animal, on the surface at least.Their polyp stage involves them remaining sessile and popping off baby jellies left and right. WOW. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “octomom.”
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that these things can grow to be BEASTS. I mean, it’s almost like they are related to Tui or something (except not nice and huggable like he is).
For real, check out a jellyfish next time you are at an aquarium, or the next time you go jellyfishing.
